Blocked Drains Branxton

Branxton Plumbing Co clears blocked drains across Branxton and the nearby valley, from the old town core out to the newest estates. Each drain is opened with a water jetter or an electric eel and then filmed, so you see it running before the job is signed off.

The rest of our plumbing work is on the Branxton Plumbing Co page.

What Is Blocking the Drain?

Three causes stand out on this ground, and each has its own fix:

Roots in old clay

Established gardens above pre-war drainage send roots after the moisture in each dry spell, and a cracked joint keeps drawing them back.

Joints pulled apart

Reactive clay has shifted the old ceramic sewer sections for a century, and every wet winter and dry summer loosens them further.

Storm water with nowhere to go

A valley thunderstorm can deliver rain faster than the old street drainage carries it, and low yards back up even while Black Creek stays in its banks.

Knowing which one you have decides the method, so the plumber finds out before quoting.

Branxton Drain Services

The six drain pages split the work by what has gone wrong and where:

Plumber running a drain camera at an outdoor pit

CCTV drain inspection

** when you need to see inside the pipe before choosing a repair.

Plumber working a drain-clearing machine

Drain jetting

** for grease, silt and fine roots that a narrow hole will not fix.

Plumber laying new pipe in an open trench

Blocked sewer

** when the trouble is inside the house, at the toilet or floor waste.

Plumber installing a strip drain beside a sliding door

Stormwater drains

** for roof and yard water that floods instead of draining away.

Pipe relining equipment set up in a shower recess

Pipe relining

** when a cracked pipe can be sealed from inside without trenching.

Tree roots exposed around a pipe in a trench

Tree root removal

** when roots have filled the line and the way they got in needs dealing with.

Not sure which fits? Describe the symptoms when you ring, or book a camera inspection first.

From Your Call to Footage and a Fix

Every drain job runs in this order, because the method depends on what is in the pipe:

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3475 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    Open it, then film it

A jetter or eel clears the choke, and the drain camera travels the line afterwards to show it running.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Why Do the Same Pipes Keep Breaking?

Moving soil, rigid pipe

Branxton sits on reactive clay, and the valley swings between hot dry summers and wet spells. The ground expands and contracts with them, and an earthenware line laid generations ago cannot flex.

Two ages of plumbing

The pre-1940 core, with its weatherboard cottages along Maitland Street, was piped long before plastic pipe existed, while the new subdivisions went up quickly in volume. One block can have fragile clay at the front and builder-grade fittings out the back.

Short, heavy storms

Area-level figures give an average annual rainfall of 704 millimetres, and a summer storm can drop a lot of it at once onto gullies laid decades ago. The yards that flood here do so because old drainage surcharges, not because the creek rises.

What Drives the Price of a Drain Job?

Access decides the most. A pipe with an inspection opening in the yard is quicker to work on than one under a deck or a period floor.

The price also reflects:

  • Pipe material Since fragile earthenware needs gentler handling than PVC, and badly cracked clay may call for relining instead
  • Distance to the choke From the nearest opening
  • After-hours timing For night and weekend visits

Drain Work That Belongs to Others

When we're not the right call. A blockage in the shared sewer main, out past your property connection, is fixed by Hunter Water. If the camera puts the fault there, you get their faults number and they take it from there.

What Customers Say

They took the time to explain everything to me and not only checked the sub floor drainage issue and came up with solutions, but all the water flow of the house too.

FAQs

Is my blockage in the sewer or the stormwater line?

A sewer choke shows inside the house first, at the lowest outlet: the toilet gurgles, the shower waste fills or the laundry tub sits full. Stormwater trouble shows outside, as water lying against the slab or the walls after rain. Filming the pipe confirms which line it is.

Do you clear drains in the older part of town with clay pipes?

Yes. Under the original town grid the sewers are ceramic and clay, much older than PVC, and the reactive soil loosens their joints over the years. We open them with a jetter or eel, then film the pipe so its real condition is on the screen before any repair is priced.

Will clearing the drain stop the roots coming back?

It gets water moving, but roots tend to grow back through the cracked joint they first used. If the camera shows that, the long-term options are relining the pipe from inside or digging out and replacing the bad length, and you get a price for each.

What does a blocked drain cost to clear in Branxton?

It depends on how easily the pipe can be reached, what it is made of, how deep in the run the choke is, and whether it is an after-hours visit. The price is fixed and agreed first.
