Plumber working on a gas oven connection

Branxton Gas Fitting Services

Gas work has two pages of its own:

Freestanding gas cooker connected in a kitchen

Installing gas appliances

A new stove, wall oven, barbecue, room heater or pool heater, with the pipe checked for capacity before anything is lit. See gas appliance installation.

Leaks and repairs

A gas smell traced along the pipe, the fault fixed and the line retested before the fitter leaves. See gas leak detection.

Gas water heaters, and whether to repair or replace one, are covered on the hot water page.

How Do You Know Gas Needs Attention?

A gas fault usually gives signs before it turns dangerous:

  • The rotten-egg odour suppliers blend into the gas as a warning
  • Cooktop flames burning soft and yellow instead of crisp blue
  • A faint hiss at the meter, the regulator or behind an appliance
  • A heater that keeps shutting off, or a gas bill that climbs while usage stays the same

A strong smell means leave first. Leave the lights and power alone, get outside, and call your gas network's emergency line. When the network has cleared the danger, our fitter does the repair.

How We Handle a Gas Job

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3475 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    Shut off, fit, prove it

The supply is isolated, the repair or new appliance goes in, and the line passes a pressure test before the burners are relit.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

What Shapes the Price of Gas Work?

The distance from the meter to the appliance comes first, because each extra metre of pipe means more material and fitting time.

The price also depends on:

  • The existing pipe, as an old copper or galvanised run may need renewing before a new appliance is joined to it
  • Capacity, where a larger heater or a pool heater may need a bigger line from the meter
  • Night or weekend attendance, which is after-hours work

Three Eras, One Gas Standard

Separate houses, full households

Census figures count 771 dwellings in Branxton, 93.0 per cent of them separate houses with 2.9 people on average, so a gas cooktop, heater and water heater can all be drawing on the same supply at once.

Old walls and new estates

In the older weatherboard cottages of the town core, a connection that looks simple can take care once a wall cavity is opened. In the newer brick estate homes, the pipe was put in by the builder, so the first check is whether that run is big enough for the extra load.

What a Gas Customer Says

"We had an urgent gas problem that required immediate attention at our home…on a Friday afternoon. … Identified the issue, fixed and tested" Lee

When We're Not the Right Call

The meter and the service pipe feeding it are the gas distributor's, and they repair leaks there once you report them. A bottled LPG cylinder that is damaged or leaking at its valve goes back to the gas supplier who filled it.

Questions Before the Gas Work Starts

Do you install gas cooktops and ovens in Branxton?

Yes. The fitter checks the line can carry the new load, extends the pipe where needed, connects the cooktop or oven, and leak-tests every joint before lighting it. It carries our 365-day warranty on all work.

Can a house BBQ be connected to the natural gas line?

Yes, either fixed in place or through a quick-connect point so the barbecue can be wheeled away. The fitter first checks the existing pipe has enough capacity, because a barbecue added to an undersized run burns with weak, lazy flames.

What do I do first when the house smells of gas?

Take everyone outdoors without touching a switch or striking a flame, and from outside ring the emergency number published by your gas network. After they have secured the supply, ring us for the repair on the house side.

Do you take gas jobs in Greta?

Yes. Greta is on our run, and so are East Branxton, North Rothbury and Lochinvar. If your address is close by but not listed, ring and ask before booking.
